Insanity Points ( Homebrew )
Insanity points are the fuel system that Chaos Mages use. A Chaos Mage can gain insanity points daily for every derangement they have. So if a Chaos Mage has three derangement, they gain three insanity points per day during the witching hour (12am - 3am). A Chaos Mage also loses one insanity point per day per every ten insanity points that they have (rounding up), if they did nothing insane the entire day. Doing something insane is when a Chaos Mage does something to spread the force of insanity in the world, such as causing someone else to experience a momentary breakdown (lose a humanity point) or build an artifact, crypt, or mausoleum. Insanity points are gained when causing another a momentary breakdown (relative to how badly they failed their resisted roll), and spent by a Chaos Mage in order to achieve magical affects as listed below. And yes, that does mean that a Chaos Mage can spend three insanity points and immediately reap four or five.

1 | Altering something into something similar found in nature, such as making water boil or making a sound that is difficult for you to achieve, but still possible. |
2 | Altering something into something tangentially similar, such as water into magma, making rustling leaves sound like children's laughter, or affecting an individual's mind to show them a slightly different version of everything they see - temporarily give them the death sight flaw, synesthesia, over saturate everything that they perceive in order to make everything more vivid and emotionally impacting, etc. |
3 | Altering something into something remotely related, such as air to stone, sound to physical force, or affecting an individual's mind to perceive that which is not there - make them see a monster that isn't there, cause them to drown on water that isn't there (knocking them unconscious but not killing them), or make them perceive that they are not currently underwater (although they may remember that there was water and become confused, and yes they would drown whether or not they think they are). |
4 | Creating that which was never there, or should never be, such solidifying a word into an object, creating sounds and illusions that are very likely to cause people to lose humanity (or go insane) by simply perceiving them, or creating illusions that are able to actually kill their victim. |
5 | Bringing the raw force of unreality into an area, causing all manner of horrifying and uncontrollable effects. In other words, a get out of jail free chaos bomb. |
6+ | At this point, the Chaos Mage starts summoning things from the abyss, which falls under the summoning rules. |
System: In order of operation, insanity points are spent, temporary willpower is spent if desired as normal, and permanent willpower is rolled. The difficulty of the roll is normally 9, but this is reduced if the mage does a spell or type of spell often enough. For example: Constant sound manipulation to a mage's voice will reduce the difficulty over the course of a month to 6 for example, but all other sound based effects are rolled at difficulty 8, and fire effects are still rolled at difficulty 9 if they are not exercised often.
